The need for vitamins is what keeps you healthy

It is really amazing to study the human body. You will be shocked to know how many processes take place within our body to keep us alive. Most of these processes depend on our food intake. They need the help of vitamins to perform their functions well. Unless we eat a balanced diet with sufficient amount of vitamins, we can expect to face problems.


Do we really need vitamins?

Like mentioned above vitamins help perform the necessary functions that keep us fit and alive. Lack of vitamins would only mean that these functions will not be performed adequately which may lead to complications. Vitamins are freely available in green leafy vegetables, salads, raw vegetables, meats, dairy products, nuts, fruits etc. a healthy diet should contain a good mixture of all the vitamins since vitamins help keep you healthy. To stress on how important vitamins are, let me remind you that absolutely no one can live without vitamins and expect their body to perform all the functions well. Vitamins keep us going, right from laughing, thinking, working, sleeping etc, each of these functions are dependent on the vitamins consumed. I hear you ask, what if I take vitamin supplements. Yes if you are missing vitamins, do compensate by taking supplements but remember, as the name suggests, they are supplements. They are not the real thing and they need to be taken with food. The best way to get vitamins is by eating the right food stuffs. Find out what your body is lacking in vitamins and make sure you eat right and eat vegetables, fruits or meats that will provide you with the much needed vitamin. Be wise, have a daily diet that includes the necessary vitamins. Stay clear of diseases; remember prevention is way better than cure.

The need for vitamins

Why do we need vitamins? This is not an anti vitamin question but one to lead to the plausible answers.


  • Let’s start with vitamin A, found in large quantities in the liver of meat products, dairy, fish .It is abundantly available in dark green, deep orange colored vegetables like carrot, potatoes, lettuce, spinach and pumpkins. We all are aware of the importance of vitamin A for our eyesight and our ability to see in the dark. Vitamin A also helps in the differentiation of the cells of the skin, builds up our immune system and supports growth of bones. In the form of beta carotene, vitamin A helps reduce your risk from certain types of cancers. So you know that all the benefits mentioned above will be lost for the lack of Vitamin A.


  • Vitamin B helps in the digestion process, keeps the energy levels high and maintains the heart and muscles.


  • Vitamin C is important to our teeth, gums and bones, it is a resists all kinds of infection that affects the human body. Thus it is one of the most commonly known and used of vitamins.


  • Vitamin D is the gift of sunshine and in small measure can be found in spinach and vegetables. The lack of vitamin D can lead to malnourishment in children. The normal growth of bones can get disturbed if vitamin d is inadequate. In Adults, Osteoporosis is caused for the lack of Vitamin D.


  • Vitamin E is the great healer, be its wounds or the damage of cells due to aging, vitamin A is needed to counter these problems.


  • Vitamin B2 and folic acid help build red blood cells, Vitamin B6 aids in the production of Antibodies and Vitamin B12 a must for childrens growth, and the metabolism of carbohydrates and fats.



    Most of the vitamins have their role in the nourishing, development, healing and maintenance of our body. The proper intake of vitamins in the form of proper food intake is of utmost importance. Food has huge storage of the most important vitamins which get ingested into our system for it to play its part. Many a times our feeling of being unwell could be directly related to the lack of one of these vitamins. In that case we are prescribed to vitamins in a more direct form like Pills, tonics and food supplements. But, it is always beneficial that vitamins be absorbed into our body in a natural way, as it is there in abundance in nature.
